Is the rapper Future married to the wrong game?
Jesus died on the cross, at least in part, because no wife would be good enough for him. After all, he’s the son of God. He deserves the best.
Jesus died on the cross, at least in part, because no wife would be good enough for him. After all, he’s the son of God. He deserves the best.
But if he truly is the son of God, then he’d be perfect. Why would he have to die? I get that he came down to die, but still. You’d think the perfect man would also find a way to stay alive.
You could say the perfect man would never defect. You can defect on him all you want. You can take all of his things, and why wouldn’t you? A guy like that is the ultimate victim. He’s basically begging to be robbed and beaten.
But there’s a way in which by maltreating a person like this serves as a damning judgement of the kind of society that tolerates it. You could take the victim as a tragic warning against letting people take advantage of you, or you can instead take it as inspiration.
Celebrities say they hope to inspire people, but they have nothing on Jesus.
Women don’t care what you do for them. To them, it’s the thought that counts, and to men this is insanity. Women are crazy. So you can bend over backwards for a woman again and again and they don’t care; it will never be enough. Of course men get frustrated, but then they see other guys who do have happy marriages, at least on the surface, and they don’t believe it?
When it comes to Jesus carrying the very cross designed to kill him, you can see a paradoxical commitment: he doesn’t resist. Not only does he not resist capture, he doesn’t even resist enslavement.
One way to prove commitment is to suffer patiently as the defections against you stack up.
The rapper Future says he’s married to the game. There’s a way in which Jesus is married to a game to, but a better one. Maybe Future is in the wrong future.
If you don’t commit to anything, then what are you then committing to? There’s a sense in which you’re either committed to the world or you’re committed to yourself. It’s easy to deceive yourself into believing you’re to the former. And it’s easy for others to claim you only care about yourself. One of the only ways to tell is for people to defect against you and for you to take it.
The moment you fight back “proves” that you have some kind of self-preservation instinct, and that you’re in it for the wrong reasons. This is one sense in which in order to save your life you must lose it.
Jesus essentially claimed the entire world of people as his bride, and of course that’s a hard thing to believe. A good husband would do anything for his wife, right? He’d even be willing to die for his wife, right?
