Things can’t get better unless you believe they can
I have problems that I never share with anyone. Often, they’re romantic issues. The thing is, I’m not sure it’s ever really helped to talk about the problems. I sort of considered dumping my thoughts into here. But it would embarrassing to, and it wouldn’t help.
There is a beauty to having the problem of not being able to share your problems. Imagine if men could talk about their feelings. Feminists ponder the thought of this. But it would be hell. If the buck stops with you, it can be tough to manage. But really, look at it as a blessing. The downside doesn’t come without its own upside. Yes, you should carry the heavier burden. But also, you get to lead!
On the right, people say “we’ve failed our men.” I couldn’t disagree more. And it’s also why I’m half-tempted to become a feminist myself. If the buck stops with you, you can’t be failed. But you can fail others. You can disappoint. Having the power to disappoint is not something to scoff at. Think of it this way, when you disappoint someone, it means you have the power to prioritize. And those priorities matter to someone. It’s a real freedom.
Feminists think men do little more than disappoint. This is true. There is no man that doesn’t disappoint. We are not God. And also, this is a reason to believe in God. Because otherwise it’s a little too easy to start comparing yourself to others. No, your competition isn’t one man or another. Your competition is God. And in God’s eyes you, unfortunately, can be better.
Thought experiment: God throws a giant asteroid at Earth. What will you do? Most men in most times in history would disappoint. Not just disappoint in bed. Yes, maybe you can learn a thing or two, but imagine disappointing the entire human race at once.
In peace time, we begin to forget the true nature of things. We become too civilian. We think about keeping things fair. We have a war in Gaza. The pro-Palestine people claim that Israel is engaging in illegal occupation. When the word legal is used, it’s an invocation of a higher power to adjudicate the issue. Likewise, when Germany lost WWII, there were trials. After war, we return to a civil approach to resolving disputes. But when human beings can’t resolve things peacefully, we war and let God decide.
Civil is good, but sometimes a system untethers from reality, and some get prizes they don’t deserve while others put in work that gets overlooked. But if the buck stops with you, it means the person who you think sucks is actually better in some other dimension. It’s also possible that you’re better, but just happen to be in an unlucky pocket of the universe.
But no matter how unlucky certain individuals have been, the general trend is toward progress. Our technology today is better than it was a couple centuries ago. But imagine if the entirety of the Western world gave up during the Middle Ages. We wouldn’t have had a Renaissance. And were would America be? Things can’t get better unless you believe they can.
