I dunno man, I dig the vitalist vibe but sometimes you're trying to grow watermelons in the desert. On the broad level, whether it's Christian or Confucian, the virtuous men are found hiding in the woods in dishonorable times.

Like Uncle Ted? Jesus spent time with unsavory characters. Then again, so did Lot. And Abraham was on the outskirts of civilization. Hard to find a clean cut way to decide. Maybe the best strategy is to understand where the moral pendulum is swinging in your environment, and understand the arbitrage opportunity this creates

I went to a benedictine monastery for a few days once. In theory, blocking yourself from the world is a huge sacrifice. In practice, I saw a lady who went there for the wrong reasons. She was indecent with the monks during communion.
